South west view from Shadowbrook Lane overbridge showing hard shoulder running with the ATM in operation and set to 50MPH on all 4 lanes. The hard shoulder is signed by the electronic warning board as to be used for the next exit (Junction 5 in this pic). Similar running and method was in use 5 to 6 on the opposite carriageway. 9 July 2008

Looking north about 1 mile south of J6. A 60mph limit is showing even though the traffic isn't serious enough to warrant such a limit. I get the impression the limits are set too cautiously resulting in 60mph showing too often.

Philips Speedstar lanterns along the M6, coming up to Spaghetti Junction. These were installed in 2013 when they were converting this stretch into a Smart Motorway. They were some of the first LED lights in England to be installed and used on a motorway main carriageway.
