Stonehenge
Back on the road heading west. This is the first bit of S2 encountered after leaving London via the M3 and is a major bottleneck every summer. The tunnel mouth should be to the left, if its ever built.

The closure of the A344, should ease the hold ups here, although dualling is the only real answer.

The A303 and Stonehenge go together like chalk and cheese. The road has run past the Stones for thousands of years, although the two have become almost synonymous with each other in modern times. The A303, being a popular holiday route, provides passing tourists with a free look at the Stones, causing the long jams that can be seen in the photograph.
This photo takes an unusual view of the A303, looking directly through the gaps in the Stones. This view may not be around for too much longer, should the government actually do what they have promised and put the road into a tunnel.
The former A344, to which part of the road's former course has been converted into a footpath at Stonehenge.
Here is the old junction with the now covered A344 at Stonehenge bottom on the A303 on a very sunny April morning, Closed in 2013 A344 now is only in the history books & on my photo records too, You can't stop to gaze at Stonehenge now as our friends the Wiltshire constabulary will move you on for stopping on the main A303.
