M50 - Junction 8 M5

Junction 8 looking west along the M50. The bridge used to carry the M5 over the M50, which then curved away to the left in this picture into the fabled tight trumpet arrangement.

This 1992 interim temporary roundabout arrangement was necessary to facilitate closure of the inner trumpet - thereby permitting works to commence on the new southern bridge over the current Junction 8 r/abt.

Strensham 1970 Scheme 3.png
An alternative design for Strensham Interchange as part of the Strensham - Solihull Motorway I from 1970. This layout was the least favoured of the three suggested designs for the junction as it introduces weaving on the southbound M5 and has a higher construction cost despite using less land.
