End of the M1 at the M50 interchange

The new bridge visible is the M50 southbound carriageway as it arcs over the M1. Diverging to the left is the M1 south to M50 south slip, and the existing slip to the roundabout.

M1 southbound approaching M50 Exit Gantry

Not a bad gantry sign but the (N32) shouldn't be patched (same rules as the UK) and 'other routes' is a bit vague for my liking, They should have just printed 'N32-N2-N3-N4-N7-N81-N11' on the sign and dispensed with 'Malahide' altogether.

M50 north to M1 sliproad

The new free-flow carriageway over the M1 is visible on the horizon. This will be used by citybound and port tunnel-bound traffic.

My version of the proposed M1/M50 interchange

I'm not very keen the actual proposed plans for the M1/M50 interchange which involves building just a couple of bridges over the existing roundabout interchange that to continue on the M50 either way you'll need to turn off to stay on.

I think the M50 should continue by bypassing this interchange heading south to the Port Tunnel and the M1 to start/end on the M50 that the M50 is supposed to be the Dublin 'Orbital' Motorway but look at Manchester's M60 at one point you still have to turn off to stay on...

M50/M1 Before the sign was patched

This is what the sign looked like before it was patched, I couldn't believe the stupidity of it the first time I saw it.

Gantry sign on the M50

Prepare to stop? Yes, the northern terminus of the M50 terminates at a signal-controlled roundabout. Thankfully, those heading north on the M1 can take the free-flow slip signed on this gantry. This interchange will be upgraded to fully free-flowing as part of the M50 Upgrade scheme, due to start this year.
