The crossing of the Laxey River

Glen Roy Bridge is not really a bridge, but a viaduct. However, as the railway crossing of the river is called the Glen Roy Viaduct, a bridge it is to avoid confusion. The structure consists of four tall grey stone arches, carrying a concrete deck with cantilevered pavements edged with metal railings as parapets. In addition to crossing the river, the bridge also crosses the private access road to the Laxey Glen Mills, which sit on the valley floor below the bridge on the upstream side. Despite carrying New Road, the bridge is shown on the 1869 OS 25 Inch Map, and is therefore older than the railway bridge a little downstream, which dates from the 1890s.
