Goole is a town and inland port on the River Ouse. The main routes through the town are the A614, running west to east, and the A161 which terminates from the south, crossing the old River Don and the docks by the Dutch River Bridge (built in the 1890s). The A161 used to pass through the town centre until December 2015, when Tom Pudding Way was opened, providing a short bypass to the west of the town centre and allowing development of the docklands area.

The M62 runs to the north of the town, providing a bypass for west-east traffic. It opened west of junction 36 (towards Leeds) in March 1975, and east of junction 36 (towards Hull and the M62 Ouse Bridge) in May 1976.

Near Goole, the A614 crosses the River Ouse on the Boothferry Bridge, a swing bridge that was opened in 1929. Just to the north, the A63 meets the A614 on the way to the M62 at junction 37.
