Harlech is a small town near the Cardigan Bay Coast. Home to a famous castle (which is a World Heritage Site), it sits on a steep slope where Snowdonia gives way to coastal flats. It is home to the steepest-signed road in Britain: the Ffordd Pen Llech, which at 40% is also one of the steepest in the world.
The A496 originally took the high route through the town, but then swapped with the B4573 to take the low road.
