Hastingwood Interchange is junction 7 of the M11, connecting Harlow to the motorway network.
History
There were originally two junctions planned to serve Harlow. The other junction would have been to the north at Sheering which would have served a northern bypass of the town, the A414. Sheering Interchange would be full access meaning Hastingwood Interchange would only need south facing slips. When the M11 went to public enquiry in 1969 the decision was taken to omit the junction at Sheering and alter Hastingwood Interchange to become a full access junction.
In August 2014, plans emerged to relieve congestion at the junction, which according to the report is currently operating at 101% of capacity in the morning peak, so would not be able to support future growth in the area. The two options proposed were widening and re-marking/signing, or a new link road between the A414 (Harlow) and B1393 (source: Uttlesford District Council)
