In the National Archives of Scotland, there are some files with descriptions that suggest that between 1955 and 1962, there was official discussion about converting the Far North railway line between Inverness and Wick/Thurso into a motorway. These descriptions are totally wrong, other than that they discuss a road in the Highlands - a very short one in the 1920s.
