North Ayrshire's Highthorn Road road is 0.304 miles and is the main access to Hunterston Estate which accesses Hunterston Castle, Goldenberry Hill and Campbelton Farm.
This road is numbered U35 and is the original coach road well before the A78 was built.
The road was slighly realigned in 1912 when the pillars were located 100 yards further south. The road crossed over the field coming out prior to Millstonford Bridge which it crosses and still exisits today and dates back to the early 19th century.
Should the A78 be closed between Highthorn and Hunterston Roundabout the U35 is used by the police as an emergency diversion route for traffic.
