The junction as the terminus of A20(M) in 1961
Hollingbourne Interchange (also referred to in some documentation as the Maidstone East Interchange) is junction 8 of the M20.
It was originally built in 1961 as the southern terminus of the A20(M) Maidstone Bypass, slightly further south of its present location, as a simple limited access interchange with the A20. In 1991, following the completion of the M20 between junctions 8 and 9, it was redesigned as the present roundabout interchange, which also provided access for Maidstone services.
