Inchyra Roundabout lies to the south east of Grangemouth Town Centre, and primarily serves as the main access to much of the refinery site and as part of a secondary access to the docks complex to the north. The main docks access is via the Timber Basin Roundabout on the other side of the town centre, but Inchyra in conjunction with Powdrake Roundabout (The two are signed together and connected by a short stretch of dualled A904) provide an alternative connection to the M9. The junction is a 3-arm roundabout, with the A904 coming through the vast refinery complex, and then continuing as a dual carriageway for the short distance to Powdrake Roundabout to the north west, with the town centre beyond. The B9143 leads away to the south west, connecting via the dualled A905 to the M9 motorway.

Although the general line of what is now the B9143 is shown on maps from the early 1960s, it was not until the early 1970s that the road became a full through route, connecting to the motorway to the south and numbered as the B9143. The roundabout seems to have been built between 1971 and 1974 when the B9143 route was completed.
