The small hamlet of Inverboyndie lies just to the west of Banff and almost has a larger industrial estate than housing estate. Today it is the B9038 that meets the A98 here, crossing a 1970s concrete bridge a short distance to the west of an old stone arch. The junction is a simple T junction with a right turn lane in the centre of the A98, and provides the main access to the coastal village of Whitehills as well as the industrial estate, so can be busy especially in the summer.
Previously, the junction here was a narrow lane, and it was the B9139 which met the A98 further east. This junction still exists, as a minor crossroads with the former B road now unclassified. The former line of the B9139 passes through the village on a meandering route and it seems that straightening and improving the other line (originally unclassified) was easier, especially with the development of the industrial estate.
