Inverurie Roundabout is the junction between the A96 and the B993 at Port Elphinstone at the southern end of the Inverurie Bypass. It also marks the northern end of the dual carriageway from Aberdeen, although plans to dual the entire A96 are being looked at, changes in the financial climate mean that these are being watered down, and the Inverurie bypass is less likely to be dualled in the near future. The roundabout is a fairly ordinary 4-arm junction with two lanes on each approach, and two circulatory lanes. Only the dualled, southern arm of the A96 has two exit lanes marked, although all four arms are of a similar width. As with many of the roundabouts at the eastern end of the A96, the central island is quite small, leading to a compact junction.
Old Junction
Prior to the construction of the bypass, the A96 followed Mill Road a little to the east of the dual carriageway, and then ran through Port Elphinstone on Elphinstone Road, now the B993. The B993 crossed the line of the bypass to the north of the roundabout and ran into Port Elphinstone on Kemnay Road, which is now a dead end on each side, cut by the bypass. The two routes met at the simple T junction which is still there, and multiplexed north across Inverurie Bridge.
