Janes Brae Interchange lies on the dualled B8039 to the south west of Cumbernauld New Town. It connects Janes Brae (the B8039) with the single carriageway South Carbrain Road and is shown as partially complete in large scale mapping from 1967/69, the south eastern section over the railway being missing. Due to the proximity of the railway, most of the movements are provided on the north side of South Carbrain Road, as half a cloverleaf junction, with only south facing slips on the B8039 for left turns on the southern side, each provided with its own railway bridge. The corresponding right turns are provided on the north side, forcing traffic to turn right on or off South Carbrain Road.

The topography of the site means that the B8039 is sloping down towards the railway bridge, so the various sliproads to the north of South Carbrain Road are all at ground level, more or less throughout, separated by some low retaining walls as required. The two slips to the south have to climb a little over the railway to meet the B8039.

The interchange was reported by Cumbernauld News of 13 March 1969 as having opened "this week". It had a 400 feet eight span bridge over the roads and railway. It completed the dual carriageway from Central Way to Lenziemill Road. Contractor was Tarmac Civil Engineering, cost £380,000.
