The Kings Knot Roundabout is a fairly recent addition to Stirling's road network, and connects the B8051 to the A811. Previously, the two routes multiplexed a short distance south east along Dumbarton Road, with the B8051 continuing north to meet the A84 at Ballengeich Roundabout. However, the A811 has now been re-routed out of Stirling's centre and so it turns north at this roundabout to meet the A84, and the B8051 heads alone along Dumbarton Road. The onward route of the A811 into the city centre is now unclassified.
The roundabout is a simple 3 arm junction built in the corner of the 'Kings Knot' Gardens, associated with Stirling Castle which sits high on the rock above. There are two approach lanes on each route to split turning traffic. The junction lies a little to the northwest of the old T junction, and sections of tarmac relating to the old road lines survive to the south and east of the roundabout as accesses. That to the east has a kerbed access direct off the roundabout.
