Kinkell Bridge over the River Earn

Kinkell Bridge is an impressive 4 stone arch structure which carries the B8062 across the River Earn. It was originally built c1793, possibly replacing an older bridge, and to this day remains the only crossing of the river between Crieff Bridge and Dalreoch Bridge. Three of the four spans cross the water, with the fourth, on the southern bank, providing a flood arch and cattle creep between fields. Each of the three piers rises up from substantial triangular cutwaters to provide a shallow semi-circular refuge. The cutwaters have been clad in concrete at some point in the more recent past to further protect the bridge. There are substantial abutments on either bank, carrying a full S2 road, although the wing walls step in as they meet the parapets on either bank, leaving a single track and slightly humper roadway over the bridge itself. Visibility is, however, sufficient to not require any form of traffic controls.

At both ends of the bridge, the B8062 meets a junction. On the south bank, it is a fork junction, with the B road swinging to the south east, while a minor road to Muthill turns off westwards. On the north bank, the B8062 has to kink past the gateway and forecourt to Millearne House, which lies to the north west, with a side road turning off to the east towards Trinity Gask. Both junctions are fairly simple T-junctions, although the geometry does mean that visibility can be slightly obscured. An old Toll house lies in the north west corner of the northern junction.
