The main harbour in Kinsale, on the R600

Kinsale is a town near the coast in County Cork and a popular holiday destination. It is also the start of the Wild Atlantic Way which follows the Irish coastline around to Derry.

The R600 is the main road from Cork, where most traffic comes from, that runs through the edge of town and round the harbour. Kinsale also serves a hub of several Regional Roads, several of which start as winding streets away from the town centre. Consequently, the town can be frequently congested, particularly during the summer months.

The old bridge over the River Bandon

The town lies on the edge of the River Bandon. There have been a variety of crossings from the town to the Old Head of Kinsale and Clonakilty on the other side of the river, including a ferry near the town to Castlepark, and a narrow bridge further upstream. Today, a modern two lane bridge carries the R600 over the river.
