Junctions related to the A95 | |||
The Kinveachy Junction lies a few miles north of Aviemore, and is where the A95 used to start, on the A9. However, with the construction of the new line of the A9 to the west, the A95 was extended south over the old road to meet the A9 at Granish just before Aviemore. The old A9 to the north of Kinveachy was downgraded to be the B9153 as far as Carrbridge, although it is still signposted for Inverness, as it is the more direct route.
The junction was originally a straight fork junction, with the A95 terminating on the A9. However, with the changed priorities, the junction had to be rebuilt, so that it is now the B9153 which terminates on the A95. To facilitate this, the A95 was realigned slightly to the south, to produce a sweeping bend in place of the former fork. There is also a right turn lane in the centre of the road. This has also allowed a little more room to the north for the B road to be turned and meet the bend at roughly 90 degrees. The old road lines have been grassed over to provide visibility splays, but enough left for a left filter lane into the B9153.
