Leighton Bromswold Interchange is junction 17 of the A14. An upgrade of this and the other nearby at-grade junctions on the A14 was planned in 1999 as part of safety improvements. An S1 bridge would have replaced the central reservation gap. The junction improvements were later abandoned and the gap remains.
