Lockerbie North Interchange is junction 17 on the A74(M), linking the motorway to the B7068 in a modified diamond arrangement. This sees the northbound slips meet the western end of the B7068 at a roundabout, while the southbound slips meet at a staggered crossroads. A minor road, and one of the alternative routes of the Annandale Way long distance path, heads north west from the roundabout to reach Torwood Farm. Tracks continue across the Dryfe Water to Applegarth, but this is signed as a no through road. The B7068 heads east into Lockerbie, crossing the B7076 (former A74) at a roundabout a short distance away. The current junction opened in September 1994 when the motorway was built.
History
The (poorly drawn) former junction on the old A74 in 1965
Prior to the opening of this section of the motorway, a fork junction existed on the old A74 slightly to the east. The fork junction was opened in 1965 with the construction of the A74 dual carriageway Lockerbie bypass and had a southbound exit to the B7068 into Lockerbie, and a northbound entry from the B7068. The old A74 is now the single carriageway B7076 and passes to the east of the current junction. A roundabout connecting the B7068 and the B7076 stands on the site of the former fork junction which was demolished when the motorway was built.
