The Lomondgate Roundabout in Dumbarton was constructed in 2008 and opened early in 2009. It has been built to serve the new developments on the land between the A82, River Leven, Ballantynes Distillery and the Bellsmyre Estate. It has also become the terminus of the rerouted A813, which formerly met the A82 at Barloan Toll. The construction of this roundabout also saw the extension of the 40 limit through Dumbarton back to the approach to the new junction, rather than starting at Barloan Toll as before.
A new area of services has been built in the north east corner of the roundabout, accessed from the A813. This comprises a filling station, with shops, take aways, Hotel and Restaurants. With space to grow, and new facilities, they seem to have at least partially replaced the services that are provided further west at Dunglass for much of the passing tourist trade.
The roundabout is a 4-arm partially signalised junction, with each approach having two lanes except for the westbound A82, which has three. This is ostensibly to separate right turning traffic from the main flow on the A82, but thanks to the size of the roundabout, and the timing of the signals, the middle approach lane (destined for the A82 west) can often be blocked on the roundabout itself by traffic turning right onto the A813. The A813 is then dualled, which perhaps exacerbates the problem, for the first 100m up to the next (un-named) roundabout which provides access to the services.
