The Luke Kelly Bridge is a bridge across the River Tolka in Dublin. The official name of the bridge is present on a plate sitting on the western parapet.
There has been a bridge on this site since the late 1400s, and was rebuilt in 1984/5 to accommodate additional traffic lanes. At this time, the bridge was renamed after Dubliners signer, Luke Kelly, who grew up on Sheriff Street nearby and who died in 1984[1]. The bridge was formerly known as the Ballybough Bridge.
The bridge forms one of the two main routes into Fairview. Under the Dublin Traffic Plan (1973), this would have been a major route into the city, with a constant dual carriageway running to Parnell Street.
