History
When opened in 1960 the junction was a parclo on the A20(M) with single carriageway, looped sliproads in the south-west and north-east corners, as is typical of an early motorway design.
It wasn't changed when the road became the M20, but eventually a new eastbound left-turn and a new roundabout at the end of the south-facing sliproads allowed for some minor changes. Further changes, in the early 1990s alongside motorway widening, saw the northern roundabout added with the A229 grade separated from both roundabouts, allowing the original ancient eastbound offslip to close.
