Roundabout interchange with spur linking to modified fork
The junction as the terminus of A20(M) in 1961
Hollingbourne Interchange (also referred to in some documentation as the Maidstone East Interchange) is junction 8 of the M20.
It was originally opened on 1 June 1960 as the southern terminus of the A20(M)MaidstoneBypass, slightly further south of its present location, as a simple limited access interchange with the A20. In 1991, following the completion of the M20 between junctions 8 and 9, it was redesigned as the present roundabout interchange, which also provided access for Maidstone services. The original 1960 flyover for A20 Maidstone to Ashford traffic was retained during the rebuild.
