Piffs Elm Interchange is junction 10 of the M5.

The junction was originally planned as a roundabout interchange in 1946. It opened in 1971 allowing limited access freeflow movements between the M5 north and Cheltenham. Over the years the inability for traffic to use this junction to gain access between Cheltenham and the M5 south has been a cause for concern. In 2020 proposals were made to rebuild the junction as a roundabout interchange, as part of a scheme to facilitate additional development next to the motorway

Five options were initially developed with three carried forward to consultation. Plans to widen the A4019 to dual carriageway between this junction and the existing dual carriageway in Cheltenham were also considered.

In 2021, a Preferred Route Announcement was made, selecting a scheme to convert the junction into a large roundabout interchange in situ, demolishing the existing overbridge and replacing by new bridges to the north and south[1].
