|Junctions related to the A6144|
In 1992 proposals were made to widen the M63 between Carrington Interchange and Princess Parkway Interchange. This would have resulted in Junction 8 being closed due to weaving as no C/D lanes were planned east of Junction 7 at the time. The widening proposals were subsequently abandoned.
The widening proposals were resurrected at the end of the century and this time full C/D lanes would be provided throughout. By now the M63 had been renumbered to M60 and Junction 6 as it is now known was to remain open. The junction became a dumbbell in 2006.
In 2014 the Metrolink line to Manchester Airport opened which runs along the route reserved for the Hardy Lane Extension. This puts paid to any major new road running northeast from the junction.
