Wall Island is junction T5 of the M6 Toll. It was once proposed as a terminus of the M54.

Prior to the 1960s the junction was a crossroads with Watling Street to the west being an unclassified road. The A5 TOTSO'd at this point and traffic had to use the then A38. In the late 1960s the A5 bypassed the village of Wall and the roundabout was constructed. In the early 1970s the A5148 was built which completed all the roads feeding into the junction. Earthworks were built on the A5148 in preparation for the flyover which would link it to the A5 west. These stubs were tarmacked but no traffic ever used them during the 30 years they existed.

In the 1980s the Birmingham Northern Relief Road would have been built on the Wall Bypass section of the A5 and the flyover would have taken it between the A5148 and A5 east. The BNRR was built as the M6 Toll in the early 2000s and the existing roundabout was replaced by two smaller ones. The embankment on the A5148 was removed and a direct slip from the M6 Toll onto the A5148 was built instead of the planned flyover.
