Nitshill Interchange is junction 3 of the M77. It was built in 1996 as part of the first extension to the M77 through the southern suburbs of Glasgow. At the time of opening the dual carriageway passing below was the A726, but since the opening of the Glasgow Southern Orbital in 2005, the eastern section has been renumbered as the A727, the A726 multiplexing to the south with the motorway.
The junction is of a somewhat complex design, being entangled with the access roads to the retail park area on the western side of the motorway. The southbound sliproads, on the eastern side of the motorway, form a standard Diamond interchange layout, meeting roughly opposite each other at a signalised junction, with east facing left turn lanes also signal controlled. This is the meeting point of the A726 and A727, with the dual carriageway generally having three lanes either side of a wide grassy central reservation as it passes through the junction. On the western side of the motorway, the northbound onslip has two accesses. Westbound traffic has a 270 degree curve starting just after the underpass, which merges with the other slip road before joining the motorway. This starts at a signalised roundabout where the northbound offslip also terminates, but not on the A726 itself. All traffic between the motorway and A726 is directed to use the northern part of Leggatston Drive, which is also dualled, but it is not clear if it is a spur of the A726 or actually unclassified as the Ordnance Survey show it. Westbound traffic could continue ahead on Leggatston Road, which passes through another roundabout, both options meeting the A726 at closely spaced signalised junctions.
