Maghull Lane Interchange is junction 1 of the M58. It was constructed with only northeast facing sliproads and opened in 1980. In 2018, plans were announced for the missing southewest facing slips to be added.
Work started on the southwest facing slip roads in mid-2019. These new single lane sliproads were opened in Spring 2020. The M58 mainline westbound was reduced to D2 a mile east of this junction to accommodate this so losing two miles of D3.
