Mayflower Roundabout is sited near to where the famous XVIth century boat The Mayflower started its transatlantic voyage (only to be sabotaged by the crew, meaning it only got as far as Plymouth before needing to winter).
This roundabout, just outside Southampton's city walls is where the primary route into the city ends, one junction short of the ferry to the Isle of Wight. This might seem a bit strange but this was where the dual carriageway from the west met the ring road, and Dock Gate 8 - the last for the container port. Western Esplande, which the section of adjoining this roundabout has since been narrowed was the B3039 - but in the late 90s they built West Quay shopping centre over part of the road, splitting it in two.
