Milton Keynes Council is a unitary authority and the Highway Authority, responsible within its area – which covers Milton Keynes and a number of nearby places, of which the biggest are Newport Pagnell, Bletchley, and Olney – for all public roads (and their associated works), with the exception of Trunk roads managed by National Highways.

It lies within the historic county of Buckinghamshire.
