Nairn West Junction is a proposed new junction on the A96 to the west of Nairn. It is to be constructed as part of the dualling plans for the A96 between Nairn and Inverness. The junction will be built to the south of the existing A96 line, on the site of Blackcastle Quarry, directly opposite the road built to access the Ardersier Fabrication Yard at Whiteness on the coast. This road, which currently crosses the B9092, is likely to be the new line of the B9092, routed down to meet the new junction. The existing A96 to the west will be retained as a local access road, whilst to the east it will remain as the main access point for Nairn. It is therefore likely to remain a classified road, with either the A939 turned to pass through Nairn, or one of the B roads extended.
The junction will be a partially folded dumbbell, with the westbound sliproads running parallel to the new road, and the eastbound curled ropund in the northwest corner. This allows the northern roundabout to be sited so as to provide a direct link to the existing A96 into Nairn, with the old western arm diverted to the north at a T junction. There will also be a fourth arm to the southern roundabout, providing local property access.
