New Elvet Bridge crosses the River Wear in Durham city centre.

It was opened in 1975 to relieve the Elvet Bridge, slightly downstream.

In June 2020, it was announced that the bridge would need to close for 14 months from July, for urgent repair work, estimated to cost £7.5m[1].
