Norton Canes Interchange was a planned junction for most routes of the Birmingham Northern Relief Road between 1984 and 1987. It would have been located immediately to the west of The Turf which itself would have been rebuilt slightly to the east of its current location to accommodate the link road between the two roundabouts. Norton Canes services was planned for the southern arm of the larger roundabout.
The preferred route chosen in 1987 omitted a junction here and when the road opened as the M6 Toll in 2003 the services were built on the other side of the B4154.
