History
Newtown Road, a northern bypass for A47 traffic from Corporation Street to Bond Street, was opened on 27 September 1932 by Major F.C. Cook, Chief Assistant Engineer to Ministry of Transport and a former Nuneaton Borough Engineer. It was 50 feet wide and included a bridge over the River Anker with a clear span over the water of 35 feet. The road later became part of the Ringway and renumbered A444.
