Penwortham Flyover is the major intersection controlling traffic over the River Ribble using the A59,the A582 and the A5072 The A582 runs for some 5 miles to Lostock Hall. The A5072 is a short link road within Preston.
Until the flyover was built, the A582 met the A59 at a triangle-shaped junction. There was a cottage in the middle surrounded by woodland, and this area was known as Triangle Wood.
