Poets Corner is a roundabout in the Small Heath district of Central Birmingham. The island opended in the mid 1980's when the D2 small heath highway section of the A45 was opened to try and alleviate the chronic traffic jams that used to occur on its old alignment slightly to the north (S2 section of coventry road).
Currently some small improvements are being made to the A45 to try and ease rushour congestion; these improvements form part of the A45 Coventry Road Route Enhancement
There is a large muslim population in the district, consequently there are a lot of mosques in the immediate area including one just off the island itself. The roundabout is at the junction of the A45 and the B4145. The A45 used to run from Birmingham to Felixstowe but beyond the M1 it has been replaced by the A14. The B4145 is a local road in this area of Birmingham and it runs from the A41.up to the A47..
