Pont Abraham Interchange, junction 49 of the M4, marks the western end of the motorway. It is the highest-numbered junction on a British road the classification of which begins with the letter M.
The roundabout interchange, which straddles the small Afon Gwili, was opened in 1977 on the A48. As part of the contract for the construction of the M4, the A48 was dualled northwards for about 800 m from here. This dualling has subsequently been extended as part of the Cross Hands bypass. The A483 connection was also built in 1977, replacing the original route (now the B4297) which ran a little further to the east and passed through the middle of Pontarddulais.
The adjoining Pont Abraham Motorway Service Area was opened in 1983.
