Portswood Interchange would have been a junction on the M272. It would have been a fork + a roundabout. When Thomas Lewis Way was built along the line of the motorway, it used the sliproads' rough location, rather than run next to the railway like the motorway was to have. As such the signalised crossroads is in the same place as the roundabout would have been.
