Traffic Signals |
A Puffin Crossing is a type of pedestrian crossing, similar to a Pelican Crossing, controlled by traffic signals. Pedestrians cross the road by pressing a button located at the side of the road, which after a period of time shows traffic on the road a red signal, allowing pedestrians to cross.
Unlike a Pelican Crossing, a puffin crossing uses nearside pedestrian signals.
Some installations since 2020 have a proximity sensor on the underside the unit as well a button to allowing contactless activation of the signals for those who are unable to press the button or want to avoid touching the unit.
