Queens Park Roundabout is the northern/western end of the A8082, which is part of the Inverness West Link Project. With only the first stage complete, it serves no real function. However as part of the second stage of the West Link, an additional canal bridge (completion in 2021) links this roundabout to Torvean Roundabout - this allows traffic flows to be maintained across the Caledonian Canal even when the one of the Swing Bridges are open.
The A82 divides between Torvean Roundabout and Tomnahurich Roundabout - the original line connecting the two roundabouts directly, via the older swing bridge, and a new branch via the new swing bridge and Queens Park Roundabout. Both branches are primary and numbered as part of A82. However the route via Queens Park Roundabout is signed as "Alt Route" with traffic being directed over the old bridge normally. When this bridge is swung to allow canal traffic, VMS signs direct traffic via the alternative. Thus traffic flow is maintained at all times.
This roundabout is partially built over Bught road, which formerly connected the A82 to the leisure centre, Canal Park and the Botanic Gardens. There is a small stub of road remaining connecting the A82 to serve a house, and south of the new road Bught Road has become a cycle route, connecting via steps, ramps and subways under the roundabout to the canal towpath and the A8082 footway. Road access to the leisure facilities is now only via Bught Drive.
The roundabout is named after the Queens Park athletics track which it is next to.
When the road opened the junction name on the advance direction signs erroneously called it "Queens Roundabout", but these were subsequently patched over to correct this, and new signs have been erected showing the route via the new bridge with the correct name.
