The R914 is a very short link road, part of the former route of the N61 in Athlone, connecting Galway Road (R446) to the Athlone bypass (Junction 12 of the N6) and the present southern terminus of the N61.
Although historically in County Roscommon, the road lies inside the modern boundary of Athlone Town and is therefore managed by County Westmeath.
