Approaching the junction from the west

Rashiereive Junction is the point where the A975 forks off the A90 to follow the coast to Newburgh and Cruden Bay. For many years it was a simple forked T junction, but with the dualling of this stretch of the A90 in 2017, a new junction to the west of the original is in use. The new junction works in conjunction with that for the B9000 to the north, the two connected via the old A90 route through Foveran, which is now an extension of the B977. As such, it only has south facing slips, while Tipperty Junction for the B9000 only has north facing slips. The A975 starts at the top of the northbound offslip, although an unclassified road continues west, connecting up to the pre-existing road network. Heading east, the new B977 connection to the old A90 heads north for Foveran before the A975 passes under the A90, with the southbound onslip then turning off, much closer to the A90 mainline than the offslip is.

A short distance further east, the old A90 route is crossed. Although not marked as such by the OS, nor signed with a number, this is also the B977, which heads south along the old A90 route, while the A975 continues ahead to meet its original line a short distance further east. Most maps mark the B977 here, and the councils road list is suitably vague, meaning that for once it seems to be the OS who are wrong.

Old Junction

The original junction between the A90 and A975 can be found a short distance south along the B977 route. It still turns right here at a crossroads, and heads east to serve a single house. Beyond this, the road has been removed, with nature (rather than the farmer) reclaiming the strip of ground between fields. The old A90 to the north of the new A975 / B977 junction has suffered a similar fate, as far as the new dual carriageway.
