Raynesway Bridge crosses the River Derwent on the A5111 East of Derby.
History
Raynesway Bridge was opened in September 1938 with the rest of Raynesway. It cost £30 000.
In 1947, the North pier of the bridge sank about a metre into the riverbed, causing significant damage to the bridge. The bridge was restricted to single line traffic and a weight limit was imposed. The bridge was cut to save the undamaged part, and work to repair it was still ongoing in 1948.
Refurbishment of the bridge was carried out during 2009, which involved coating the beams in a protective substance and removing graffiti.
