Redhouse Interchange is junction 38 of the A1(M), the north end of the Doncaster Bypass.
History
The junction consisted of two forks, where the Great North Road passed the road to Hampole (with Red House positioned by the junction), and Red House Lane.
It was turned into a roundabout in 1961, when the A1(M) opened and a short section of the road to the north was dualled.
By 1979, traffic levels had increased on all approaches. A new flyover was built for the A638, which meant that the roundabout could be removed and turned into a LILO, with additional sliproads reducing the number of right turns. Red House survived the work, and remained in the middle.
Changes were made in 2001, where a new roundabout was built in the middle of the junction to serve Rockingham Way. The original alignment of the Great North Road can still be seen in the farm access which runs north-east of the junction.
