The Junction at Renton, northwest of Dumbarton is where the A82 Alexandria Bypass crosses the one-time route of the A82, more recently the A812. The D2 A82 is banked up from the bridge over the River Leven, in order to find a relatively level route on the hill to the west of Alexandria. As a result, it sails over the top of the old road, with slip roads dropping down to meet the A812 and B857. These sliproads allow full access to/from the eastbound carriageway, but there is only an exit from the northbound carriageway. Whilst on a map it seems relatively easy to fix this, and so create a full-access junction, the gradients around the junction make it very difficult.
The sliproads were newly built as part of the bypass scheme, and are classified as part of the A82, despite their combined length being almost equal to the entire A812! The slips meet the A812 at simple give-way junctions. To the north, the former A812 is now the B857 through Renton. Curiously, neither the A812 not Dumbarton are signed from the A82, traffic for the town instead directed off at Barloan Toll to the east.
