Diversion of A82

Diversion of Route A82 (Glasgow - Fort William - Inverness) Between Glasgow-Alexandria and Carnach-North Ballachulish.

Effective as from 16th May, 1934.

A82 (Glasgow - Inverness)

Glasgow and Dunbartonshire

(a) To commence at the junction of Argyle Street and Jamaica Street, Glasgow and to proceed via Union Street, Renfield Street and Cowcaddens Street (ex A81) New City Road and Great Western Road (ex A876) to the City Boundary thence north westward following the line of route hitherto numbered A876 via Duntocher and north of Bowling to a junction with the original line of Route A82 at Auchentorlie Wood. (The section of Royte A82 from Auchentorlie Wood westward to the junction of the Dumbarton and Bonhill roads at Dumbuck to remain unaltered).

The original opening sentence started 'To be diverted from the present line of route at the junction of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street, Glasgow and to proceed via Buchanan Street (ex A805), Cowcaddens Street...' But has been scored through.

(b)To be diverted from the present line of route at the junction of the Dumbarton and Bonhill roads at Dumbuck and to proceed over the line of route hitherto numbered A811 and A812 via High Mains and Strathleven to Bonhill, thence via Bonhill Bridge and Bank Street, Alexandria to a junction with the original line of Route A82 at Main Street, Alexandria.

Argyllshire and Inverness-shire

(c)To be diverted from the present line of route at the junction with Route A829 west of Glencoe Post Office, Carnach Village, Argyllshire and to proceed over the line of Route A829 via Caolasnacon and Kinlochleven turning north and west and skirting the north shore of Loch Leven to a junction with the original line of Route A82 at North Ballachulish Post Office.

The superseded sections of Route A82 to be renumbered as follows:-

Glasgow and Dunbartonshire

(a) From the junction of Trongate and Stockwell Street, Glasgow via Argyle Street, Dumbarton Road, Scotstoun and Yoker to the City Boundary and thence via Clydebank and Old Kilpatrick to a junction with the new section of Route A82 at Auchentorlie Wood ... A814.

Again the opening sentence has been changed from: 'From the junction of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street, Glasgow via Dumbarton Road...'

(b) From the junction of the Dumbarton and Bonhill roads at Dumbuck to Dumbarton (West Bridgend-Cardross Road junction) ... A814.

(c) From Dumbarton (West Bridgend-Cardross Road junction) northward via Renton to a junction with the new section of Route A82 at Alexandria (Main Street-Bank Street) ... A812.

Argyllshire and Inverness-shire

(d) From the junction with the Kinlochleven Road, west of Glencoe Post Office, Carnach westward to a junction with Route A828 (Connel-Ballachulish) at Ballachulish Ferry A828.

The short section of the old line of Route A82 between the north side of the Ferry at Loch Leven Hotel and the North Ballachulish Post Office to be renumbered A828 (North Ballachulish Spur).

A81 (Glasgow - Callander)

To commence at the junction of Garscube Road and New City Road, Glasgow, proceeding thence to Milngavie and Callander as hitherto. The Union Street - Cowcadden Street section to be renumbered A82. General Description unaltered

Original changes were described as: '(a) The Union Street-Renfield Street section to be renumbered A727. (b) The Cowcadden Street section to be renumbered A82.' But scored out

A727 (Clarkston - Glasgow)

To be continued northward via Union Street and Renfield Street, Glasgow to a new terminal at the junction of Cowcadden Street (A82) and Renfield Street. Amendment Scored Out

A805 (Glasgow Buchanan Street)

Wholly renumbered A82 Amendment Scored Out

A811 (Milton - Stirling)

To commence at Bonhill (Main Street-Bonhill Bridge junction) proceeding north-eastward from this point as hitherto. The Milton-Bonhill section to be renumbered A82. A811 (Bonhill - Stirling)

A812

Wholly renumbered A82. Route number A812 is re-allocated to the Dumbarton - Alexandria section of A82. A812 (Dumbarton - Alexandria)

A814 (Dumbarton - Arrochar)

To commence at Glasgow (Trongate Stockwell Street junction) proceeding thence via Dumbarton Road, Scotstoun, Yoker, Clydebank and Old Kilpatrick to Dumbarton (West Bridgend - Cardross Road junction) and thence to Helensburgh and Arrochar as before. (A814 will be merged with A82 between Auchentorlie Wood and Dumbuck). A814 (Glasgow - Arrochar)

A828 (Connel - Ballachulish)

To be extended beyond the present termination at Ballachulish Ferry over the line of route hitherto numbered A82 to a junction with the new line of Route A82 west of Glencoe Post Office, Carnach. And spur Ballachulish Ferry - North Ballachulish. A828 (Connel - Carnach)

A829 (Carnach - North Ballachulish)

Wholly renumbered A82. A829 Vacant

A876 (Glasgow - W. Of Bowling)

Wholly renumbered A82. A876 Vacant
