The Rousay Ferry operates between Tingwall, on the mainland of Orkney, and Rousay, in the North Isles – with certain sailings also serving Egilsay and/or Wyre. The operating company is Orkney Ferries Limited.
Crossings
The ferry terminal at Tingwall principally serves Rousay, some of the advertised sailings to Egilsay and Wyre being by pre-booked request only. The terminal is just off the main A966 road, with plenty of room for parking and manoeuvering. This is essential, as the ferry is a single-entry type, with vehicles needing to reverse on.
The crossing time from Tingwall to Rousay is 25 minutes (45 minutes via Egilsay/Wyre), while the round trip from Rousay to Egilsay and Wyre and back takes 50 minutes. These timings allow for six sailings a day from Tingwall (five on Sundays) during the summer months. The ferry can carry between 9 and 12 cars.
