The SH44 serves Port Taranaki in New Plymouth. It starts at the junction with the SH3 and SH45 in the city centre and heads north along Eliot Street, before turning left onto Molesworth Street. This continues as St Aubyn STreet and then Breakwater Road, running roughly parallel to the coast and railway, to reach the port area.
